Gradovi i naselja na Skadarskom jezeru imaju dugu istoriju. Utvrđene gradine Samobor i Oblun. Grad Skadar, kapitalno urbano jezgro, tvrđava, bedemi, ruševine crkve Svetog Stefana, mali episkopski utvrđeni gradovi u okolini. Tu je i Žabljak Crnojevića, Rijeka Crnojevića, Obodski grad, Virpazar. Svako selo imalo je školu, crkvu i groblje, kuće specifične arhitekture tog područja.
